The Urban Design Section is responsible for developing and implementing a visionary plan for the future development of the City of Miami as a whole based on sound urban design principles that are applied to all planning efforts in the City.
The Urban Design Section responsibilities include the following:
• Manage and monitor the Internal Design Review Committee
• Liaisons to the Urban Development Review Board
• Preparation of planning studies that acknowledge the unique character of each neighborhood and include high standards for architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design
• Collaborate with outside design consultants involved in the City’s master plans, manage design contracts and monitor the quality of work products
• Organize community meetings and manage the public planning process
• Make presentations to the general public, community groups, outside agencies, City boards and City Commission of all planning work
• Provide design and technical support to other City departments
• Write legislation, ordinances, design standards and guidelines
