before the Commission is assigned a number, which the
Commission uses for tracking purposes. The numbers are
in the form YY-XXXX e.g. 03-0331, indicating the year
the matter was first received by the Commission and the
chronological sequence.
Status:
This field indicates the state
of specific items in the legislative process. The
statuses used by Legistar are:
In
Commission: Items on the agenda to
be considered by the Commission or the Meeting Body.
To be Introduced: Appointments to
Boards and Committees to be made by the Commission or
Meeting Body.
Emergency Ordinance: Ordinances that
are being considered for immediate adoption by the
Commission.
Second Reading: Ordinances that have
already been passed on First Reading by the Commission.
The Commission may amend the legislation, pass it or
defeat it.
First Reading: Ordinances that are
being presented for the first time for consideration by
the Commission.
Passed:
Legislation that has been
passed by the Commission or Meeting Body.
Approved:
Items that have been
approved by the Commission or Meeting Body.
Consent Agenda:
Items that will be
voted on as a block in the Consent section of the
meeting.
Personal Appearances: Requests from
member(s) of the public to address the Commission on
various subject matter.
Mayor's Office for Signature: Awaiting
Mayor's signature
Filed:
Final status result of an
action of "Presented and Filed" or just "Presented".
This is usually used for reports, presentations, and
correspondence, but could also be used in rare cases for
items that are allowed to die without action.
Failed:
Legislation that failed to
receive required the vote for passage by the Commission
or Meeting Body.
Filed in Clerk's Office:
Public Hearing: Item(s) before the
Commission or Meeting Body that are open to discussion
from the public.
Special Public Hearing: Special
hearing called by the Commission to hear specific
item(s) which will be opened to comments from the
public.
File Type: Meeting Bodies entertain
various types of Files that may or may not end up in
legislation.
Ordinances: An ordinance is
legislation which has the force of law. A public hearing
is required before passage of ordinances, except for
emergency ordinances. Some ordinances, which are of a
permanent nature, are codified in the
City of Miami Code
of Ordinances.
Resolution:
A resolution is a
form of written proposal used for making declarations,
stating policies and making decisions where some other
forum is not required.
Discussion Item:& A discussion
item is an item of interest that has to be discussed by
the City Commission or Meeting Body.
Executive Session: & An executive
session file type refers to executive items which are to
be discussed in a closed session not open to the public.
Resolution of Condolence:
A resolution
of condolence is a resolution issued by the Commission
expressing condolence upon the death of an individual.
Ceremonial Item: A& A ceremonial item is
a form of recognition issued by the City in tribute to
individuals, organizations, or events.
Presentation: A& A presentation is a
recognition or acknowledgement by outside agencies paid
to the City of Miami or to its representatives.
CRA Resolution: A& A CRA resolution is a
resolution that relates to the Community Redevelopment
Agency.
CRA Report:&
A CRA report is a report
relating to the Community Redevelopment Agency.
CRA Discussion: A& A CRA discussion item
is an item of interest that has to be discussed by the
Community Redevelopment Agency.

is created. By comparing various matter versions of the
legislation, you can track the changes made.
History: T& This field gives a short
history of the legislation, including when it was
introduced and when action was taken by either the City
Commission or the Meeting Body. If the cursor is placed
over the “action taken” field, the vote on the action
will appear.
Attachments:
These items are
attachments to the legislation itself and are adopted at
the time the legislation passes. If there are two
attachments with the same name, the one with the latest
date is the attachment currently before the Meeting body
or, if the legislation has passed, it is the attachment
adopted by the Meeting body./p>
Informational:&
These attachments
contain other information about the legislation, such as
transmittal letters, fiscal notes, staff reports, and
advertising summaries.

typically associated with applications such as MS Word,
MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat or other applications. If your
computer has the related application or a compatible
application, clicking a document will open the files in
the host application. If your computer does not have the
compatible application associated with the attachment
type, you will be unable to open the attachment. In some
cases, compatible applications may be downloaded from
the manufacturer or elsewhere on the internet.

This entry contains
information about the date the legislation was
introduced, the Agenda date, the meeting body to which

legislation which was passed and the final enactment
