(Miami, FL May 6, 2011)---The Little Haiti Neighborhood Enhancement Team has teamed up with T.R.I.P., a national non-profit organization, to assist in painting one of the largest murals in the City of Miami. This multi-phase, called the MLK Community Mural Project, is an outdoor mural initiative being implemented over a 24-month period. The mural will cover 10,000 square feet and includes five (5) walls within the Little Haiti Soccer Park. Local volunteers are also encouraged to join T.R.I.P. in the Day of Service on May 13 – no special skills or experience are required. The mural project will provide opportunities for volunteers, businesses, and community-based organizations to participate in painting the mural. Research shows that community-led mural projects have significant benefits, including raising community awareness, education, skills development, job creation and cultural expression.
Mayor Tomas Regalado is excited to see the spur of volunteerism from T.R.I.P. volunteers who are traveling from across the country to launch “The Little Haiti Day of Service,” and stated “I would like to welcome T.R.I.P. volunteers to the City of Miami. I thank you on behalf of our citizens for your day of service.” "We welcome T.R.I.P. and their humanitarian efforts in assisting the City of Miami, particularly Little Haiti in beautifying the community,” said Richard P. Dunn, II, District 5 Commissioner. “I know this will be a wonderful collaborative effort and I look forward to seeing this come into fruition."
