(Miami, FL May 18, 2011)--
Omni CRA Chairman Marc
Sarnoff, Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA Chairman Richard P. Dunn,
Midtown CRA Chairman Francis Suarez, CRA Board Members Wifredo
“Willy” Gort and Frank Carollo, and CRA Executive Director Pieter A.
Bockweg, join Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado in welcoming the crew of
Warner Bros. “Rock of Ages” as they establish a home-base for
production along NW 14th street, including a
CRA-owned building which is in the process of becoming a
state-of-the-art film facility. Film crews
are currently in the process of transforming the street and adjacent
buildings into a replica of 1980’s era Sunset Blvd. The event is set
for Thursday, May 19th,
at 10:30 AM at 1368 N. Miami Ave. “The CRA is
working toward the vision of establishing a thriving film and
entertainment corridor along 14th Street,” says Omni CRA
Chairman Sarnoff. “We could not be happier that this area was seen
as the perfect fit for this major production.” With an
all-star cast and massive crew, “Rock of Ages” will be a tremendous
economic benefit to our community,” says City of Miami Mayor Tomas
Regalado. “Productions of this magnitude become economic magnets
which bring increased commerce and cash flow to scores of businesses
within our City.” The Omni
CRA recently purchased the former Skill Center building from the
Miami-Dade School Board with the intention of constructing a film
production facility on the property. The building is currently being
leased to “Rock of Ages.” “It is
gratifying that the producers of this major project see the
potential of this property, even before we begin the build-out into
a film studio,’ says CRA director Pieter Bockweg. “The film makers
are offering the CRA outstanding feedback and guidance to maximizing
this building’s current and future use. “Rock of
Ages” is an arena-rock love story told through the heart-pounding
hits of
Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger,
Reo Speed Wagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and
many more. In addition to Julianne Hough and Diego
Boneta, the cast also includes Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Russell
Brand, Paul Giamatti, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, among others. For more
