(Miami, FL
May 24, 2011)—Commissioner Marc D. Sarnoff, District 2,
along with area neighbors and city administrators will hold a
groundbreaking ceremony, on
May 26, 2011, at 1:30pm, for the US 1 Roadway Improvements and Wall
Reconstruction Project, Phase II, the famous “Pink Wall” along
Dixie Highway, from SW 19th Avenue to SW 17th
Avenue. The
groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the intersection of
Wakeena Drive and Natoma Street (on 17th Avenue between
US1 and South Bayshore Dr.) “We have
worked diligently to make sure that the next phase of improvements
to South Dixie Highway occurs and that we take the additional steps
necessary to not only clean up US1 but also create a safer
environment for homeowners and drivers by integrating crash barriers
and improved drainage along this next stretch of the project,” said
Commissioner Marc D. Sarnoff, City of Miami – District 2. The Capital
Improvements Project consists of the construction of a new privacy
wall, a new traffic barrier wall, drainage improvements, and milling
and resurfacing.
Construction will start near SW 19th Avenue and US 1
heading east towards SW 17th Avenue.
The anticipated time for completion of the project is
approximately six months. Traffic
along US 1 will be impacted due to the construction and lane
closures are to be expected. The
estimated total cost of this project is $1.5 million with funding
provided by Street Bond Series 1 & 2 Citywide Transportation and
Transit. For
