(Miami FL
August 10, 2011)—City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado,
Commission Chairman Wifredo (Willy) Gort and Young Dreams Community
Outreach along with the Kiwanis of Little Havana and the Allapattah
Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) Office will celebrate a back to
school event by giving away over 1,000 book bags and school supplies
at Juan Pablo Duarte Park in Allapattah.
Over 1,000
students are expected at the park where they will have the
opportunity to visit with their parents multiple career stations and
participate in hands on activities.
At these stations they will find information about Firemen,
Policemen, Paramedic, Photographer, Make-Up Artist, Fashion
Designer, Masseuse, military careers and others.
“We want
to empower our young people from an early age with information in
order to help them make wise career choices in the future,”
commented Commissioner Gort. “This is an event that is both
educational and fun, and a help for parents during these hard
economic times as families face that important first day of school.”
One
thousand backpacks, school supplies, and reading materials collected
from the Donate-A-Book drive will be distributed among the
participating children during a day planned specially for them with
live music, food and refreshments, raffles and games to enjoy.
Special
thanks to Young Dreams Community Outreach, Valsan of Miami, Inc.,
the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana and The Children’s Trust for their
