Tropical Storm Irene is Now a Hurricane

 

(Miami, FL    August 22, 2011)—Hurricane Irene has formed near Puerto Rico.  There is a potential threat to our area, although no watches have been issued at this time.

 

The City of Miami EOC is at Level III activation and monitoring closely the situation.  No other activation is needed at this time.

 

The forecasts show the system could be in our area late Thursday as a Category 2 hurricane.

 

Our Solid Waste and Public Works Departments are carrying out normal operations and will be coordinating with Emergency Management, as will other departments, for an Action Plan as the storms approaches Florida.
