| A Community Clean Up Event Sweeps Allapatah

(Miami, FL April 28, 2011) - Saturday, April 30, 2011, Mayor Tomas Regalado, Commission Chairman Wifredo “Willy” Gort, District 1 will be welcoming and participating along with volunteers, merchants, civic and community organizations, city departments and staff in the “I Am Cleaning Miami,” a Community Clean Up Event, on NW 17th Avenue from 16th Street to 36th Street.
Starting at 8:00am, participants will be gathering at Juan Pablo Duarte Park located at 2800 NW 17th Avenue for breakfast and welcomes by the elected officials. Groups of volunteers will hit Allapatah and side streets at 9:00am. The city’s Public Works Department will be on hand to provide pressure cleaning, as well as, the Solid Waste Department with a garbage truck, fully staffed with tools and bags for the cleanup. Neighborhood Service Workers, from the city’s Neighborhood Enhancement Teams Program (NET) will tackle graffiti and other jobs and the Homeless Assistance Program will provide transportation for the volunteers. NET administrators and staff will be reaching out to businesses in the area informing them of their responsibility to maintain and cleanup the right of way. Civic and community organizations have offered their support and participation. Mayor Regalado commented, “When people take care of their community, it instills a sense of belonging and a sense of pride.” As promised by the Mayor, this will be an “I Am Cleaning Miami” event taking place in another neighborhood of the city.
