Bluee Ribbon Panel Established to Investigate Miami Police Involved Shootings

Miami, FL (August 23, 2010 ) —City of Miami Mayor and City of Miami, district 5 Commissioner Richard P. Dunn will join the nine (9) member Blue Ribbon Panel for a public discussion regarding the recent police shootings in district 5. Members of the community and police department officials will also take part in the meeting today, August 23, 2010 at 6:00p.m. in Miami City Hall Chambers, located at 3500 Pan American Drive.

Commissioner Dunn established the Blue Ribbon Panel in early July in the wake of a fatal police involved shooting. Since then, three similar incidences have occurred. The purpose of these public meetings is to ensure transparency in the process. “We need our residents to know that the community and police are on the same page in order to inspire confidence,” said Commissioner Dunn.

Members of the panel include: Retired Major Frank Christmas, Dr. Marvin Dunn, Attorney and former Chair of The Civilian Investigative Panel, Larry Handfield, City of Miami CRB Chair, Patricia Maldonado, Bishop James Adams, St. John Baptist Church, Pastor Gaston Smith, Family Spokesman and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Samuel E. Sullivan, Greater Bethel A.M.E., Pastor and Businessman in Overtown, Pastor Willie Williams, Greater Mercy Baptist Church and Former U.S. District Attorney, Kendall Coffey.
