City of Miami to Unveil Its First Environmentally Friendly Hybrid Solid Waste Truck

Miami, FL (September 13, 2010 ) —On Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 3:00p.m., Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, representatives from Autocar and Parker Hannifin along with The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will announce the City’s first fully hybrid-powered “green” solid waste truck during a press event at Miami City Hall. The Autocar E3 features the most advanced hybrid technology and energy recovery system available – RunWise Advanced Series Hybrid Drive – developed by Parker Hannifin that increases fuel savings up to 50 %, lowers carbon emissions up to 38 tons per year and reduces noise levels and overall operating costs. Through the National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program, the City obtained a grant to acquire the truck.

“We are excited and proud to be one of the first cities in the country to receive the Autocar E3 equipped with Parker Hannifin's RunWise Advanced Series hybrid drive technology,” said Mayor Regalado, “The addition of this eco-friendly vehicle to our fleet is another step we are taking to make Miami one of the cleanest cities in America.”

About the RunWise Advanced Series Hybrid Drive: RunWise is a new Advanced Series Hybrid Drive system from Parker Hannifin. The RunWise system replaces a Class 8 refuse truck’s conventional drive train with a series hybrid drive system that marries the variable features of a hydrostatic drive for urban routes during refuse collection with a mechanical drive for efficient operation at highway speeds.
