(Miami, FL April 18, 2011)—City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and Congresswoman Ileana Ros Lehtinen will hold a press conference, on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 11:00am from Miami City Hall, to urge the Census Bureau for a recount of Miami’s population.
The numbers in the 2010 Census did not report Miami’s full growth since 2009, claiming that a little less than 400,000 people live in the City, which is 30,000 less than official estimates in 2008 and 2009. “I am requesting the Bureau performs a complete and accurate population recount,” expressed Mayor Regalado. “The funds that Miami loses due to an undercount will ultimately affect the quality of life of our city and the most vulnerable and neediest of our residents.” The Census population figures determine the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funding; Miami could lose over one billion dollars in the next ten years due to this undercount. Every person that is not counted means a loss of federal dollars for roads, schools, hospitals and other institutions. Congresswoman Ros Lehtinen has expressed her full support for a recount to be done as soon as possible. WHO: Mayor Tomas Regalado, Congresswoman Ileana Ros Lehtinen WHAT: Press Conference urging the Census Bureau for a recount of Miami’s population WHEN: Tuesday, April 19, 2011 @ 11:00 am WHERE: Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive, Miami |
