Mayor Tomas Regalado and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Southeast Regional Administrator Ed Jennings, Jr., Launch a Consumer Protection Campaign to Empower Homeowners

-Learn How to Know, Avoid, and Report Scams-

  (Miami, FL April 14, 2011) – City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and U.S. Housing and Urban Development Southeast Regional Administrator Ed Jennings Jr will launch a HUD consumer awareness anti-scam campaign during press conference, on Wednesday, April 20 at 11 a.m., from Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive.

The campaign entitled Know It. Avoid It. Report It. has as its goal to inform the public and in particular, homeowners who are facing foreclosure, falling behind their mortgage payments, or simply looking for a lower home loan rate or monthly payment not to fall victim to loan modification scammers and to report suspicious activity. A consumer event on loan modification and foreclosure prevention, free and open to the public, will follow the press conference to provide homeowners with foreclosure assistance.

“I invite homeowners who are going through the painful process of foreclosure to come to City Hall and be informed on how not to be a victim of scammers,” said Mayor Regalado. “Representatives from HUD and other consumer agencies will be here to give them a hand and help them find the right solution.”
