(Miami, FL December 30, 2010)— On Sunday, January 2nd, the Orange Bowl Committee, City of Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado, City Commissioner Richard P. Dunn II and commissioners from the PAC 10 and ACC (home conferences to 2011 Discover Orange Bowl teams Stanford and Virginia Tech) will welcome Allapattah residents to get a first look at the Orange Bowl Field at Moore Park.
Marked by a ribbon cutting, cookout and activities for over 200 local kids throughout the afternoon, the debut of Orange Bowl Field at Moore Park will celebrate a two-year $5.7 million renovation at the site that hosted the Palm Festival in 1933, predecessor to the Orange Bowl.
In partnership with the City of Miami, the Orange Bowl Committee spearheaded the $5.7 million legacy gift initiative to commemorate its 75th anniversary. Orange Bowl Field at Moore Park features a new playing surface with synthetic field turf, running track, 1,500 aluminum bleacher seats, press box with P.A. system, electronic scoreboard, field lighting, two restroom/concession buildings and a storage structure.
Notable professional athletes who perfected their game at a young age at Moore Park include Chad Javon Ochocinco, Thaddeus Lewis, Darryl Sharpton, and Lee Corso.
